OK,  I'll be the coach.  Now What?

Step 1: Contact the club, attend meetings.

Contact Ron Yankum to let him know you are willing to coach. Attend club meetings to stay informed. You may also want to join the board. CASC depends on volunteers to maintain the fields, make improvements, and raise funds through the concession. When's the next meeting?  Check the CASC Calendar

Step 2:  Register with Soccer Maine

Coaches, board members, assistants, volunteers and referees:

If you have not done so, please go to this website and complete the form:

 https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/sm/08-09/RiskManagement.html

***  You cannot be assigned to a team until you complete the form. ***

Step 3: Read the coach handbook for CASC

Sean Davis has authored a comprehensive handbook with useful information about coaching for CASC. Please take some time to read through the copy you were given, and bookmark this online copy:

CASC Coaching handbook coming soon

Step 4: license class(es)

All coaches U-11 up must have Class "E" license. This is a free class for all coaches and assistant coaches. Class schedules can be viewed here at the Soccer Maine website.

Step 5: Get your team

Contact the Registrar to get your team list. All players are assigned to teams according to age, and they must have a paid registration before they can participate with a team.  Fall travel player registrations begin in May.

Step 6: Get some help!

Running a team is much easier if you enlist the help and support of your team's parents. You may need a team administrator to handle things like schedules, uniforms, and communication with parents and CASC.  You will also want an assistant coach (or two) to help you during the practices and to fill in should you be absent. Please remember that your team will be responsible for staffing the concession at least once during the season. Each team must have a coach and an assistant, and all must complete the Risk Assesment form with Soccer Maine.

Step 7:  Have fun!

Your travel team will be scheduled for 6 games during the season on Sunday afternoons, additional games are at your discretion. Practices should be at least once per week, contact Ron to schedule your field time.

Your Team Page

Your team will have a page with coach emails, schedule from Soccer Maine, and links to festivals. Your page can be updated with any information you email in, like pictures, schedules, practice times, cancellations, etc.  Make sure to specify what team, and send your email here.  I accept photographs only in digital form, preferably jpeg format.

General Information:

The 3rd version of the Soccer Maine schedule had one game per Sunday for each team. Coaches called or emailed other coaches to set up additional games if their teams wanted them. CASC  pays refs for two games per weekend, or up to twelve games during the season.

Referee assignor: Ron Yankum

Contact Ron to arrange for field time and refs before you arrange additional games.

Traveling coaches should pick up checks from the treasurer to pay Home coach 1/2 of the ref fees.

Uniforms

If your team needs uniforms, please contact Sean or Ron with sizes and amounts. Uniforms will only be issued to registered players.

CASC provides $20 per player towards uniforms, but many coaches find sponsors for own warm-ups and uniforms. On Top has the CASC logo ready to be screen printed, as well as Augusta Rec logos. Other potential suppliers are listed on our links page. Please let us know who your sponsors are so that we can list them along with our other sponsors  and on your team page.

It is extremely important to ANCHOR the goals that you're using for practice or games.

Players are at risk of getting hit on the head if a goal tips or blows over.  All the goals, including the largest White goals will blow over. Please use the black sandbags to put on a side rail. One per goal is enough.  If you are not using a goal and there is no sandbag near, TIP it over so it can't be used.
Do not play a game without goals being properly anchored. You should also be checking goals at every away game you play. If the goals are not properly anchored, DON'T play until they are.

It is the board's responsibility to stop a coach from using a goal not properly anchored.
Referees should also be checking this.

Registration forms & fees should be mailed to:

CASC  Registrar,   P.O. Box 2222,    Augusta ME  04330.

 Registration fees are $75  U-9 &U-10,  $80 U-11 to U-14.  $10 Sibling discount, max $200 per family.

Player Registration

Rain-outs

Call the traveling coach either by 9 AM, or two hours before game.

Make-ups will be on Saturdays, 12:00, 1:30 or 3:00PM. Call Ron for refs.
